Where I have been?

August 16, 2007

Here’s what’s been keeping me busy the past month:

-A trip family to the Zoo to celebrate the start of DH’s summer vacation resulted in a trip to the ER. A. wiggled from my grasp while refusing to get into the stroller, the stroller got bumped in the crowd, and she fell head first onto the brick path. You know it’s bad when the entire crowd around you gives a collective *gasp*! Thankfully, she fell on the hardest part of her head and there’s no lasting damage.

-Just 3 days after that, R. swings a book around wildly and gives DH a nasty corneal abrasion. He couldn’t see well for days and spent much of the following week in bed with his eyes shut. As much as I might complain about him not helping out around the house, I got a taste of single parenthood and realized how lucky I am. I now appreciate the little things like his ability to drive to the store and pick up a gallon of milk.

-Four days before our scheduled family vacation we decided that DH’s eye was healing well enough that we should actually go. Which meant we should probably figure out where we were going. Oh, and since he couldn’t look at a computer screen for any length of time I was now in charge of that too.

-I found a reasonable hotel, made reservations, and researched what to do in the area. Then I spent two days cleaning the house and packing.

-Vacations with kids is kind of just doing the same thing in a different place. The good part is that someone else cooks, cleans, and provides entertainment. The bad part is the kids are crankier because they won’t sleep and hate the car. Next year we’re going to stay home and hire a maid, nanny, and cook instead.

-Just kidding, we spent 3 nights exploring Maryland’s Eastern Shore and had a good time. Even more importantly, all four of us shared a hotel room for those 3 nights and we all survived. The last two nights of our trip were spent with friends who live in Baltimore. Completely worth the 3 hour drive where only Elmo DVDs would stop the crying. (Seriously, have YOU ever tried listening to Elmo for 2.5 hours straight?)

We’ve been home 4 days now and I’m finally caught up on emails, phone calls, and laundry. Suitcases have been returned to the basement. Children and husband are all napping. Now I can start catching up on everyone else’s blogs!

I like your idea for the “perfect” vacation – a maid, a nanny, and a cook = fabulous!

Wow, oh wow. I was wondering where you’d been. Now I understand. I’m glad everyone is healed and feeling better now.

It sounds like you’ve had a busy and exciting summer. Glad you were still able to get away.

I’ll look forward to seeing more blogs from you.

Yes. We’ve listened to Elmo for 2.5 hours. In fact, the only thing that would stop the crying on the 16 hours trip to Orlando for BIL’s wedding with a 4mo and a 2yo was Elmo. Specifically Elmo’s song. On repeat. Over and over and over again…
