Socks and Shoes and Sh…

September 18, 2007

The girls have been obsessed with shoes lately. They love to put them on, they love to take them off, and they love, love, love to say shoes! They also love to say socks. There’s only one problem. They can’t pronounce sock. They sit in their car seats and babble “shoooes, shooes, shooes” followed by “sh!t, sh!t, sh!t.” A. will sometimes make more of a “shot” or “shock” sound but R. never fails to say “sh!t” in a crystal clear voice. I’m just waiting for them to point out their socks when some little old lady is making a fuss over them at the grocery store.

Oh now, that would be funny. Zachariah loves shoes too. He says “sh sh sh” though. That’s it. Oh well, soon enough we won’t be able to get him quiet.

Last month, on the boys’ last day of daycare, I brought in cake with the initials (FKS) of the facility spelled out in M&Ms. Since I’ve been working very hard on phonoics with HandsomeBoy, he stared at the cake for a minute and then proudly shouted (!) “Mommy! I can read it — it says F-UH-KS — FUHKS!!!!!”

That’s when I crawled under the table!
