Chalk Outlines

April 1, 2008

We’ve been delving into the arts and crafts a lot more these days. It’s nice because they make good gifts for the grandparents and keep the girls occupied. One of the things I did was trace their hands to make “By R/A’s Hand” clothespin artwork hangers. (Okay, there’s probably a real name for these but it involves cutting their hand out of foam and glueing it to a clothespin and adding a magnet.) Traced hands also make nice additions to anything from birthday cards to valentine’s greetings. In other words, we’ve been doing a lot of hand tracing these past few months.

Not too long after starting the hand tracing binge, R.ita asked me to trace her foot. (Funny is watching your daughter strapped to her booster seat at the dining room table trying to get her foot onto said table while screaming “feeeeet. feeeeeeeeeeet.”) Feet became the other flavor of the month.

Today it got a little out of hand with an added request for elbows. (Elbows? how random is that?) Next came A.li banging her head on the table asking me to trace her “faaaaccee!” Which progressed to chest, which somehow lead to chalk outlines of babies on butcher block paper all over my living room floor. Add in all the debris on the floor from the weekend and it looks like a gigantic crime scene.

    Awww, the innocence of youth.

It won’t be long and they’ll be tracing all over the walls, each other, etc. Something to look forward to, I’m sure.

That sounds like a lot of fun. I’ve been thinking about starting more craft things with Zachariah, but we have not yet. He’d probably enjoy it, though.

Crafty stuff is fun if they want to spend more than 1 minute doing it. Which my children don’t. So, I buy them the Crayola Color Wonder books and markers, so that even my 3 year old will just sit and color, color, color and I don’t have anything to clean up!

pics of the crime scene please!

    Carrie, that’s just too funny!
Kristin, I have no pictures because I looked around the room at the debris and panicked because my DH was coming home soon. 🙂
