Driving Drivel
I’ve been trying to save on gas and really planning out my errands so that I don’t criss cross all over town and so that I only go out once a week. A few reflections on my evening:
1. Tonight was errand night and I hit five stores, the library and the gas station in two hours. Do you know how long this would have taken with the girls in tow?
2. I read in Rea.der’s Di.gest about this thing called hyper-miling. It was an article about how these people get 100+ miles per gallon using regular old cars (not hybrids!) It has to do with taking advantage of downhill and coasting to a stop. I have no ambitions to reach such numbers with my 10 year old Dod.ge Gran.d Cara.van but I’ve been trying to do this just to see what happens. I got about 2 mpg more than I usually do which is pretty good if you consider the fact that I don’t do this all the time and DH drove the van for about 100 of the 300 miles it’s been driven since the last tank of gas. Of course, if you consider the fact that I paid $3.819 per gallon it’s not really earth shattering savings.
3. One of the radio commercials advertised the Poison Control Center. It included a catchy little tune to help you memorize their phone number: 1-800-222-1222 – see, it worked! You can listen to it HERE. My only thought on their whole little jingle is that it made poisoning sound like a lot of fun and kind of mellow. I’m thinking that the Poison Control ad shouldn’t remind me of the ad for our local family restaurant. But that’s just me.

Mommy's Too Busy to Blog...or do housework 
Errands without children are SO MUCH BETTER! I don’t do them at all during the week. We cram them in on the weekend. Or, if my MIL is here on a Tuesday, I run a quick one while she’s here with the girls. It’s just too much work otherwise.
Oh my goodness, errands without a child are a dream. It’s amazing what you can get done.
Coasting to a stop is a great way to conserve gas. I practiced that when I was commuting to college when we first got married. I was driving 90 miles each day. It did help. I should be more careful again.

Is it just me or does the 1-800-222-1222 song remind you of any or all of the SchoolHouse Rock songs?
I will be singing it for the rest of the day, though…guaranteed.

I haven’t read in a while and I had to comment on several things. 1) thanks for the coasting idea I will be doing that
2) we attempted pics professionally also at a similar place and I too found it amusing as she tried to get 2 13 month olds to hold poses. My favorite was when she wanted Alex to hold and O over his face, she leaned an N between them and Eli held the E. Yikes lady! oh, and the fact that pics were taken on a platform is insane. 3) Their computer obsession. Ugh, I had these grand plans of using my laptop in their room while they played. Please, they see it and HAVE to be on top of it. Thanks for the laugh! It is fun to see the similarities.
